The annual Pennsbury School District Art Show showcased the creativity and talent of students from across the district earlier this month.
Crowds packed the Pennsbury High School East gym in Falls Township from May 2 through May 4 as students proudly displayed their artwork to family and friends.
The gym was packed with artwork made by kids in kindergarten through twelfth school, including complex sculptures, delicate pottery, and paintings and drawings.
“Art Education has a profound impact on a student’s overall education,” said Blair Greiner, Pennsbury’s art curriculum coordinator. “It allows students to process information visually, helping them learn how to problem solve and take risks with a variety of solutions.”
The show featured a Senior Showcase Section that was juried by Anne Gannon and Renee Egan from Artists of Yardley (AOY,) a Pennsbury Partner.
Jordan Vradenburg’s stained glass work, Divine Feminine, won the Judy Kaufman Award for Best in Show, which was given by Gannon and Egan. The prize is given in Kaufman’s honor, a former art instructor and curriculum coordinator at Pennsbury. Jade Gallagher received the People’s Choice Award.
“Art education provides an opportunity for cultural diversity and awareness while also celebrating each student’s unique characteristics and creative brain,” stated Greiner.
“The Visual Arts teach fine motor skills, vocabulary, and decision-making and boost critical thinking. Students feel more engaged and desire to attend school when they participate in Arts activities. Among many other positive assets that the Arts provide, they are also proven to increase scores in academic areas as well. We are grateful for the support of Aesthetics and the Visual Arts Department at Pennsbury.”
Over 60 years ago, the first Pennsbury Art Show was held.
