A Voice of Healing, A Life of Purpose: Dr. Tynia Canada’s Transformative Journey

With a five-octave vocal range, a master’s degree in psychology, and a heart dedicated to healing, Dr. Tynia Canada—affectionately known as “Chicky”—has spent her life turning pain into purpose and passion into impact. A gospel artist, mental health therapist, speaker, and nonprofit founder, Dr. Canada exemplifies what it means to live boldly, love deeply, and lead with grace.

Her journey began in the heart of New York City, shaped by gospel music and rooted in her church community. Her musical ascent reached new heights when she joined jazz legend Roy Ayers, serving as his lead and background vocalist for many years. “Working with Roy wasn’t just a job—it was a calling,” she reflects. “His mentorship helped me discover my voice and my message.” Following his passing in 2025, Dr. Canada has continued honoring his legacy while forging her own as a gospel artist with music now in national radio rotation.

When asked how her life experiences shaped her career, Dr. Canada shares, “Grief, trauma, and healing are not just topics I studied—they’re part of my story. My purpose is to help others find hope in their hardest moments.” As a licensed therapist and grief specialist, she provides clinical support to women and families, integrating faith and psychology to create lasting transformation.

Through her nonprofit, Inspirational Spirit of the Phoenix, LLC, Dr. Canada provides wraparound services to survivors of domestic violence, grief, and trauma. Her impact has been nationally recognized, including features in Ebony Magazine. “My community has always shaped my values,” she says. “It taught me that healing is communal—and everyone deserves a second chance to rise.”

From her gospel album The Time is Now, to her motivational speaking and her family-inspired catering company Aunt Katherine’s Kitchen, Dr. Canada continues to uplift, nourish, and empower others—one song, one word, and one act of love at a time.
