ACP celebrates Kanya with Sri Lankan cultural showcase


 

Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka Karachi, recently presented a captivating dance and musical program titled “Kanya: Poetry in Motion” at Auditorium I. The event attracted a large audience, including dignitaries such as President of the Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah and Consul General of Sri Lanka JagathAbeywarna.

President Muhammad Ahmed Shah praised the exceptional performances by all Sri Lankan artists, commending them for bringing honor to their homeland. He expressed delight at the cultural exchange and stressed the importance of fostering continued cultural ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Consul General JagathAbeywarna acknowledged the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi for consistently promoting Sri Lankan culture in Pakistan and lauded President Muhammad Ahmed Shah’s dedicated efforts in advancing arts and culture.

He announced plans for future cultural programs in Karachi, highlighting ongoing collaborations. ChandanaWickramasinghe, expressing gratitude to the Arts Council Karachi, shared his pride in showcasing Sri Lankan culture through performances that included “Janagi Malaya,” “Ukusa,” “HoiyaHoiya,” and “Rathnadeepa.”

The ChandanaWickramasinghe Dancers Guild captivated the audience with remarkable dances such as “Laila me Laila,” “Heritage of Sri Lanka,” “Traditional Devadasi,” and “Riddham Rata,” accompanied by a stirring performance on “Thammattam” drums.

Sri Lankan singer SonalPrabhashitha received enthusiastic applause for her renditions of Pakistani songs “Pasoori” and “Kanayari,” while MaheshaSundamali mesmerized with “ChaudhvinKa Chand Ho YaAftab Ho” and “Lag Ja Gale.” Singer Wikee’s unique style also left a lasting impression on the audience.

The evening concluded with President Muhammad Ahmed Shah honoring ChandanaWickramasinghe with a shield and presenting flowers to the singers in appreciation of their outstanding performances.
