Cultural Exchange Walkthrough – Rise of the Ronin Guide

Note that after the events of the attack on the US Consulate, you’ll be given the main mission for Yokohama’s Shadow. In truth you can undertake that mission before Cultural Exchange, but both will be needed to advance the story, so the choice on which to undertake first is yours.

Cultural Exchange

Since the US Consulate attack, the Yokohama Grand Villa has now become a base of operations for Pro-Shogunate forces. You’ll find several people here, including Marcus Samuel if you helped him, as well as Matthew Perry who can also ally with you after Marcus re-introduces you.

Head to the large conference hall in the building, and you’ll come upon a British envoy and interpreter, Ernest Satow, talking with Yukichi Fukuzawa, a refined samurai working with the shogunate. You can decide to be guarded with your intentions or let them be known that you wish to interrogate Townsend Harris, and the two will comply, as Ernest suggests Yukichi lead you directly to Mr. Harris at a temple near Kanagawa Post.

Kanagawa Post is a larger town in the north of the Yokohama region, which you can find by traveling north along the coast from the city and across a few bridges to the Kanagawa area. You’ll find Yukichi by the main gate to the town, and as you head down the long road, it will become apparent this place has seen better days.

Anti-shogunate expulsionist samurai have taken over the post in a violent search for the US Consul, causing him to flee the nearby temple. It will be up to you and Yukichi Fukuzawa to find his hiding spot while dealing with bloodthirsty brigands.

Tracking Down Harris Walkthrough

  • Rewards: Primary Weapon (Excellent), Rifle Bullets x6, Power Remedy, Iron Ore x2, Silver Coins x3 (Optional)
  • Available Allies: Gonzo

For this mission, your task is to find out which area of Kanagawa Post that Townsend Harris is hiding in. There are five areas in total, and unfortunately, four them are occupied by anti-shogunate expulsionists who won’t be happy to see you (even if you aided Kogoro to attack the US Consulate).
