It’s a cultural exchange. It’s ‘The Shot List’.

THE AWARD-winning film exhibition and distribution company We Are Parable and the Jamaican Film and Television Association (JAFTA) announce the third annual iteration of The Shot List, a cultural exchange, designed to showcase the best films from Caribbean and Black filmmakers based in Britain.

Originally conceived as a project between the British Council, JAFTA and We Are Parable, The Shot List will take place at Hope Gardens, Kingston, on May 26 and will include masterclasses, screenings, discussions and music. Since 2022, the event has attracted over 1500 attendees.

We Are Parable co-founder and director of operations Teanne Andrews believes that The Shot List is establishing itself in both the Caribbean and United Kingdom: “We’re thrilled that we are collaborating with JAFTA again for The Shot List. The last two years have shown that The Shot List creates visibility and collaborative opportunities for filmmakers (from UK and Jamaica), it also encourages a wider conversation about international co-production and distribution.”

Saeed Thomas, JAFTA president, says: “We are overly excited to stage our third year of Shot List.

“This is a special year for film in Jamaica as it is the launch of the Jamaican Screen Development Initiative which aims to support and strengthen the local screen-based industries by providing a pool of funds accessible for the completion of eligible screen-based projects across various stages of development.

“This year is special for us because it is the first year of the JSDI $1billion dollar fund for film makers given by the government as well as we have now proved that there is an apprentice for these types of events and for Caribbean content.”

In 2013, The Shot List welcomed over 700 attendees with an event which included screenings of films made in the UK, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as a masterclass from BAFTA winning writer, director and actor Adjani Salmon and panel discussions from creatives from around the Caribbean.

“The Shot List has grown into a highly anticipated event for filmmakers from the UK and Caribbean to come together and share their films with international audiences,”, Anthony Andrews, Co-founder and Creative Director of We Are Parable says.

“We want to ensure that both sets of films have the opportunity to travel and ultimately be seen in various regions.”

This year, The Shot List will be supported for the first time by EON Productions, the production company responsible for the James Bond film franchise.

Producer Barbara Broccoli said: “We are delighted to be supporting We Are Parable and JAFTA with this fabulous showcase, The Shot List, taking place in Jamaica and featuring emerging Black filmmakers based in the UK, Barbados and Jamaica.”
