Edith Robb Dixon, a philanthropist who endowed the Dixon School of Nursing at Abington Jefferson Hospital, passed away on Saturday, May 18 following a brief and sudden illness. She was 91 years old.
According to her obituary, Mrs. Dixon was also active on the Boards of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, the Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park, and the Hill at Whitemarsh.
She was also a Trustee Emerita at Cabrini University and was inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame.

In fall 2006, through the leadership and generosity of the Dixons, Cabrini College transformed the Edith Robb Dixon Field into a state-of-the-art artificial grass field. The Dixons’ challenge grant inspired more than 300 donors to make gifts to the all-weather mini-stadium, which now features seating for 700, lighting for night games and an enclosed press box.
Since 1973, Mrs. Dixon has served on Cabrini’s Board of Trustees and twice served as chair (1980-83, 89-91). She is responsible for initiating many of the current committees and during her lengthy tenure, has participated on the Development, Nominating and Executive committees. Additionally, she served on the search committee that led to the hiring of Antoinette Iadarola, the College’s current president.
The Dixon campus is located at 300 Lakeside Drive in Horsham. The site opened in 2020 after The Abington Hospital School of Nursing’s closure in 2017.
“Edith was a true philanthropist, and her generosity expressed a love for family, friends, and the thoughtfully chosen organizations she served across healthcare, education, the arts, and environmental preservation,” her obituary said.

We are saddened to announce the passing of our friend and supporter, Edith Robb Dixon, at the age of 91. She was a passionate advocate for nursing and generously endowed the Abington nursing school. Her support helped the program achieve Magnet recognition and she was honored with an honorary doctorate from Thomas Jefferson University. Edie’s legacy continued with the establishment of the Dixon Campus for the Jefferson College of Nursing in 2020. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom and community spirit will forever inspire us.
