Locals achieving academic success at colleges, universities | Local News


Universities and colleges have announced the names of those achieving status on their respective academic honors lists. Below is a list of recently submitted notifications regarding students from Jacksonville and the surrounding area.

Abilene Christian University

Mariah Melton of Bullard was named to the Abilene Christian University Spring 2024 Dean’s Honor Roll. Melton is a senior majoring in Child and Family Services.

Melton was among more than 1,500 students named to the Spring 2024 Dean’s Honor Roll.

To qualify for the Dean’s Honor Roll, students must be registered for 12 or more credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher.

Sam Houston State University

The students listed on the President’s Honor Roll at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Those named to the spring 2024 President’s Honor Roll were Ella Falls, of Bullard; Grysel Hernandez, of Jacksonville; Lexsey Cleaver, of Rusk; and Gabila Flores, of Rusk.

Students listed on the Dean’s List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0.

To qualify for the President’s Honor Roll, a student must have completed, in one term, 12 or more credit hours of undergraduate college-level credit with a grade of A in all courses. The President’s Honor Roll is awarded only in fall and spring semesters to students pursuing a baccalaureate degree. Students named to the President’s Honor Roll are not named to the Dean’s List. 

To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must have completed 12 or more credit hours of undergraduate college-level credit in the awarding semester with a grade point average of at least 3.75. The Dean’s List is awarded in fall and spring semesters only.

To qualify for the Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy Dean’s List, a student must have completed six or more credit hours in the awarding semester with a grade point average of at least 3.75. This recognition is made in fall and spring semesters.
