MODERN PENTATHLONWorld Championships,, external Rome (7-13 May); GB is sending a team of seven to Italy and, with only four Olympic places available, there is more than a World Championship medal at stake. CYCLING – BMXSupercross World Cup,, external Papendal, Netherlands (12-13 May); the latest World Cup meeting is a chance for elite riders to find some form ahead of the World Championships in Birmingham later this month.

SAILING470 World Championships,, external Barcelona (11-19 May); Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell continue their rivalry with Australia’s world and Olympic champions Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page. The British pair won silver behind them at last year’s World Championships. Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark compete for Britain in the women’s competition, which also features five-time world champion Lobke Berkhout of the Netherlands.
