Health Heroes Unite in Edmonton provided a “unique opportunity” to engage in workshops, access essential health services, and participate in activities promoting wellness
The mayor of Enfield joined a host of local celebrities to highlight health and wellbeing at an event in Edmonton.
Olympian Dwain Chambers, reggae legend Tippa Irie and viral content creator ‘Stevo the Madman’ took part in the Health Heroes Unite event at Edmonton Green Shopping Centre last weekend.
They were joined by Mayor of Enfield Mohammed Islam to highlight the work of an Edmonton Community Partnership health and wellbeing initiative designed to connect some of Enfield’s underserved communities with a wide range of early intervention and holistic services in the borough.
‘Stevo the Madman’ hosted the event stage to introduce local talent. The former footballer, who gained the public’s attention thanks to his comedy videos on Snapchat, has a combined audience of more than 2.4 million followers and subscribers. He said: “Coming back to my hometown for this event meant so much to me. I’m proud to have helped spread the word about the incredible work that Edmonton Community Partnership do.”
After he was pictured dancing on stage to some banging tunes, Cllr Islam said: “Edmonton Community Partnership’s health and wellbeing festival was a remarkable event, uniting our diverse communities and connecting individuals with health and well-being professionals.
“This festival offered a unique opportunity to engage in workshops, access essential health services, and participate in activities promoting physical and mental wellness. It showcased the strength of community collaboration in enhancing our collective health and happiness.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants and contributors for making this festival a cornerstone of our commitment to wellbeing.”
Other event highlights included a live set from reggae legend Tippa Irie who has worked with the likes of The Black Eyed Peas and Alexandra O’Neil performing his hits including fan favourite Hello Darling, local street artist Simon Tomlinson from Blingwear UK creating an collaborative Edmonton Rising mural that everyone was invited to contribute to, and a local barber providing free trims.
Health professionals were on hand to answer questions on everything from talking therapies to heart health; the mayor took the opportunity to visit the diabetes awareness stand and volunteer for the simple finger prick blood screening test.
Edmonton Community Partnership CEO Trevor Blackman said: “The Health Heroes Unite event was an amazing day that brought the local community together. By helping residents and underserved communities access the health and wellbeing services they need, providing early intervention and wrap around services results we hope to see less people presenting at A&E in crisis. We couldn’t do this work without the support of the NHS North Central London Integrated Care Board.”
