News Flash • Maricopa County Human Services Department Wins


Maricopa County Human Services Department has once again been acknowledged by the National Association of Counties (NACo) with 20 Achievement Awards for their work supporting vulnerable residents in the nation’s fourth most populous county. 

“I would like to congratulate the Human Services Department on being recognized with 20 Achievement Awards for their commitment to providing support for low-income and underserved communities,” said Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jack Sellers, District 1. “These awards show that the county is dedicated to providing equitable, innovative, and fiscally responsible solutions, often through partnerships with public, private, and nonprofit organizations. It is a valuable collective effort to improve quality of life throughout Maricopa County.” 

NACo rewards groundbreaking county government programs in 18 categories that cover many different county responsibilities. Maricopa County Human Services received honors for their valuable work including Senior Center Kitchen Expansion and Remodel in the city of Buckeye, Hand in Hand County Collaboration with Cities to Address Homelessness, Emergency Shelter Expansion for Families, Maricopa County and City Partnerships to Prevent Heat Related Deaths, and more than a dozen other initiatives.  

“It is an honor every year being recognized by NACo for the work we do to help the people of Maricopa County,” said Jayson Matthews, Maricopa County Interim Director of Human Services. “The Department of Human Services provides services to people of all ages and backgrounds, with a focus on those who need it the most. It’s meaningful work that makes a positive and measurable impact in the community. To see the work Human Services is doing recognized in program after program, on the national level, is truly gratifying and a testament to our amazing staff.”  

NACo has handed out Achievement Awards recognizing outstanding county government programs and services since 1970. Throughout Maricopa County, NACo recognized a total of 22 departments, elected offices, and courts with 75 Achievement Awards, the most the county has ever received.
