From the quiet town of Crawford, Georgia, to the vibrant halls of Clayton County schools, Dr. T.K. Winfrey has transformed her passion for language and education into a legacy of empowerment. As an award-winning educator, district librarian, and best-selling author, Dr. Winfrey is on a mission to ensure every child, especially bilingual learners, sees themselves on the page and in the world.
Her journey into education began in 2000 after working in bilingual sales at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, where she sharpened the communication skills that would later define her teaching style. “I’ve always believed language is a bridge—not a barrier,” Dr. Winfrey says. That belief led her to teach foreign languages and English Language Arts before stepping into her role as a school librarian, where she continues to inspire curiosity and literacy every day.
One of Dr. Winfrey’s proudest accomplishments was founding Anort Books, LLC in 2019. “There was a serious lack of bilingual literature for children,” she explains. “I wanted to change that.” Today, her titles—like Wow Mom, You Speak Spanish! and Punch Buggy! Let’s Go! ¡Vámonos!—bring joy, culture, and representation to young readers across the country.
Her perspective on leadership is deeply rooted in service. “Leadership means being willing to lift others up while staying grounded in your purpose,” she reflects. Whether mentoring new educators or helping aspiring authors navigate the self-publishing world, Dr. Winfrey leads by example—with integrity, passion, and heart.
