Josh Stacey played table tennis, along with a number of different sports, throughout his teenage years. Then when he was 17 he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after a coach suggested there might be a physical reason why he couldn’t put his weight fully on his feet.
He joined the British para table tennis squad and within months won bronze for Team Wales at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Four years later he went even better and became Commonwealth champion.
After finishing fifth in his two events at Tokyo 2020, Stacey will be hoping for more at Paris 2024.
Key dates: Another busy schedule with two doubles events alongside his class 9 singles. He will line up with the highly-rated 14-year-old, Bly Twomey, in the class 17 mixed doubles and Aaron McKibbin in the men’s class 18 doubles. They conclude over the weekend of Saturday, 31 August and Sunday, 1 September, before Stacey’s singles event runs from Tuesday, 3 September to Saturday, 7 September.
