Lots of great food, dancing, cultural displays and friends and neighbors exchanging recipes, greetings and stories about their culture are among the reasons Sterling Heights Ethnic Community Committee’s Cultural Exchange is so successful.
“The evening is really a great chance for people of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds to celebrate their similarities more than their differences,” Kozeta Elzhenni, chairperson of the Ethnic Community Committee said, of the event being held March 8 from 6 to 10 p.m.
And with only a few more weeks to go, committee members are looking for participants.

This would include businesses interested in becoming a sponsor or restaurateurs who would like to donate samples of desserts, breads and other food samples. The event is also an opportunity for culturally-related organizations to set up a display table with information and resources. Also, a big part of the event that attracts visitors from across the county are the dance troupes and entertainment groups.
Those who are interested in performing are encouraged to call the committee at 586- 446-2473.

“We are looking forward to participation from the many nationalities in Sterling Heights and surrounding areas,” Elzhenni said.
The city’s Community Center is at 40250 Dodge Park Rd., in Sterling Heights. Free overflow parking will be available at City Hall and the 41A District Court.
The annual event is sponsored by the Sterling Heights Ethnic Community Committee, a group of nearly a dozen members formed in 1990 to expand the understanding and communication among diverse races and ethnic groups in the city.
