For Dr. Jonathan D. Belton, Sr., service is not just a role—it’s a lifelong calling. A U.S. Army National Guard Sergeant First Class with over 22 years of military service, community leader, business owner, and mentor, Dr. Belton has seamlessly merged leadership with heart, proving that legacy is built on action.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Belton has balanced service, scholarship, and fatherhood with extraordinary grace. One defining moment came early in his Army career, which shaped his leadership values and inspired his path. “What they see is what they’ll be,” he reflects, echoing the motto of 100 Black Men, Greater Charlotte Chapter, where he mentors youth and uplifts future leaders.
Despite the challenges of balancing civilian and military life, Dr. Belton has remained focused and driven. “I stay motivated because the work I do isn’t about me—it’s about making others better, giving people hope, and being present for my family and my community,” he shares. Whether managing equipment readiness for over 15 Army units or mentoring college students through the Collegiate 100 at Fayetteville State University, he leads by example.
Dr. Belton’s personal motto, “May the work I’ve done, speak for me,” rings loud across every facet of his life—from his barbershop, Smooth Cutz by JonB, which offers a nostalgic and affirming experience, to his deep commitment in Prince Hall Masonry, Mu Beta Phi Military Fraternity, and veteran advocacy organizations.
As he continues to pursue his MBA in Entrepreneurship and Cybersecurity, Dr. Belton remains grounded in faith, family, and purpose. “I hope my story inspires others to use every gift they have to lift someone else,” he says. His story is one of resilience, reflection, and relentless impact.
