“You should hold talks with that party and ensure a nationwide caste census,” CM Stalin had told PMK, which is in alliance with the BJP.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly Wednesday adopted a resolution urging the Central government to conduct a caste census, news agency PTI reported.
Chief Minister M K Stalin had told the Assembly on Monday that the state government plans to move such a resolution in the ongoing session. PMK legislator G K Mani had raised the issue for a caste-wise census to provide 10.5 percent reservation for Vanniyar community. Responding to this, the DMK chief said if a good solution was to be found for the issue he raised, then the Centre should soon conduct the caste-based census along with the population census.

Stalin added, “You are well aware with which party you are now in alliance.” The PMK party is a member of the BJP-led NDA.
“You should hold talks with that party and ensure a nationwide caste census. Only then it (reservation for Vanniyars) could be implemented in the state,” Stalin said. He further said that such an attempt by the Bihar government was quashed by the court.
After the release of caste survey report from Bihar last year, Tamil Nadu also witnessed the rise of such a demand. The ruling DMK ally V Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), NDA partner Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), and the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) had raised the demand for caste survey in October last year.
