Undergraduates Honored for Academic Achievement


Three BU Wheelock seniors were the recipients of the college’s annual undergraduate awards, given in recognition of outstanding academic performance and dedication to BU Wheelock and the broader community. This year’s honorees were Hannah Grossman, Yeji (Becca) Cho, and Joanna Love. In addition, Love was the recipient of the Golden Key award, which is selected by BU Wheelock undergraduate students. They received their awards at this year’s Undergraduate Brunch, held during BU’s May Commencement Weekend.

Peter Foukal Achievement in Math and Science Award: Hannah Grossman

Awarded to a BU Wheelock senior who has achieved academic excellence in math or science.

Hannah Grossman studied math education at BU Wheelock, where she took a wide range of high-level math courses. During her time on campus, she spent a semester at Brookline High School, where she taught statistics and geometry. While teaching, Grossman used the challenges she faced in advanced math classes to connect more effectively and empathically with her students.

Currier Award in Achievement in Science Education: Yeji (Becca) Cho

Given annually to a student in their third or fourth academic year, who demonstrates scholastic achievement in the field of science education.

Originally from South Korea, Yeji (Becca) Cho specialized in teaching & learning while at BU Wheelock. She represented BU Wheelock as the sole undergraduate presenter at the 2024 AERA annual meeting. After graduating, Cho plans to start a master’s program at Stanford University, where she will continue to continue researching and contributing to education in South Korea and beyond.

Dean’s Academic Excellence Award: Joanna Love

Given to a senior who has achieved academic excellence during their time at BU Wheelock.

Golden Key Award: Joanna Love

Given to a senior who epitomizes the vibrant spirit of the BU Wheelock community. Awardees are selected by their fellow undergraduates.

While at BU Wheelock, Joanna Love specialized in teaching & learning and participated actively in scholarship and research in educational design. As a student, Love contributed to a research project in which she evaluated picture books for cultural relevancy and their possible inclusion in classroom curricula.
