Wescom Foundation Marks 25 Years of Philanthropy With Member Giving Campaign – Pasadena Now

Wescom Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Pasadena-based Wescom Credit Union, is celebrating its 25th anniversary by holding a member giving campaign throughout May. The Foundation matched donations supporting five nonprofit organizations: A Place Called Home, House of Ruth, MEND, Thomas House Family Shelter, and Rancho Cielo.

Wescom Credit Union, one of the largest community credit unions in California, has a long history of supporting local nonprofits through its Foundation. Since 1999, the Wescom Foundation has donated $4.9 million to various charitable causes, with members contributing over $610,000 since 2020 to support the Foundation’s giving campaigns.

The five organizations supported during the May campaign each focus on providing essential services to vulnerable communities in California. A Place Called Home, founded in 1993, offers a safe haven for gang-affected youth in South Los Angeles, providing education, arts programs, mental health counseling, and job readiness training.

Los Angeles House of Ruth, established in 1978, serves homeless women and children, offering a secure place for those escaping domestic abuse.

MEND, started in 1971, addresses poverty in the San Fernando Valley by providing food, diapers, case management, and support services to low-income individuals and families.

Thomas House Family Shelter, founded in 1986, provides shelter and support services to homeless families with children in Orange County. The organization recently expanded its capacity and scope of services, including homeless prevention, career development, and youth mentoring programs.

Rancho Cielo, a nonprofit partner of Central Coast Federal Credit Union which recently merged with Wescom, offers vocational training and high school education in Monterey County. The organization helps students achieve success through seven programs, including ag technology, auto repair, construction, welding, culinary arts, and youth development.

Members of Wescom Credit Union contributed to the campaign through the credit union’s website, online banking, or mobile app. The donations were distributed equally among the five selected nonprofit organizations.

In addition to the Foundation’s 25th anniversary, Wescom Credit Union is also celebrating its 90th anniversary later this year. The credit union remains dedicated to helping Californians build better lives through its charitable initiatives and commitment to community service.
