Workington nurse praised for dedication to recycling

Louise Wright, a nurse in the School Aged Immunisation team in Workington, has a keen interest in protecting the planet.

Her appetite for the green agenda and recycling was recognised by a colleague. The nomination said: “Louise is passionate about recycling at home and in her work environment. Her enthusiasm and motivation to promote and encourage waste recycling within the Childhood Immunisation department is second to none.

“Louise contacted the Facilities team and has introduced accessible cardboard/paper waste bins to the department and is in talks with management to have recyclable bags to take out to schools.

“The waste from the vaccine packaging visibly mounts up with cardboard, paper, plastic, and sharp waste.

“At first Louise was overwhelmed with the amount of potential recyclable waste and the lack of facilities for us to recycle whilst in the community.

“She has personally contacted companies to get advice on whether the cardboard and plastic used in their products are recyclable due to companies not displaying the internationally recognised universal recycling symbol on their products and websites.”
