Board of Visitors: Stories: Philanthropy in Action: News & Media: News & Events: Lilly Family School of Philanthropy: Indiana University Indianapolis

Description of the video:

Amir Pasic:

The Board of Visitors is a group of champions for the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, people who are in the field, various aspects of philanthropy who are either alums or have come to adopt the school as a really important part of the field.

Suzanne Griffith:

It’s a great board. The expertise on our board, the talent, the representation, really allows for all the intersections in the conversations about philanthropy.

Derrick Feldmann:

Our aim together as a board is to look at the strategic direction of how we might influence philanthropy, how we might communicate it better, how we might research, all of those different aspects that will really improve practice.

Amir Pasic:

So it’s a wonderful punctuation point in the flow of our work where we gather together and reflect on what we’ve accomplished over the last six months, and usually have some kind of a discussion about what we can be doing to advance new initiatives that we have developed.

Derrick Feldmann:

So we have three aims. The first aim is around growth in terms of professional development. The second thing is, is how do we work closely and more with people that are in our ecosystem? And then lastly is, how do we get more of our board engaged with our institutes and initiatives overall?

Suzanne Griffith:

I learn more than I think I give. The research that’s happening here at our institutes is very, very important, more people should know about it. I like coming to convene with board members and be part of the group that lifts up that work.

Derrick Feldmann:

This is the place that you’re likely going to get the theoretical, the strategy, the insights, and the data that you can, all in one place.

Amir Pasic:

There’s a great energy, both kind of intellectual, creative, but also just a lot of friendships renewing.

Suzanne Griffith:

All the faculty and the dean and all the staff, they are just wonderful and their work should be recognized and awarded. And my fellow board members have been wonderful and welcoming too.
