Group calls for action on global warming to protect environment

A Non-Governmental Organisation, the ECOWEB360, has said there is a need for collective efforts from stakeholders to ensure that the environment is sustained and managed for human existence.

The ECOWEB360 added that there is a need for all and sundry to address the complex challenges posed by global warming and climate change head-on.

The Chief Coordinating Officer, ECOWEB360, Olajumoke Adeseko, made the call while donating to two secondary schools in Akure – the Akure Commercial School and the Akure Muslim High School under the sponsorship of the Royal Commonwealth Society, Bath Branch, United Kingdom.

In the Akure Commercial Secondary, 100 gmelina seedlings and five units of 25- liter soft pedal waste bins while Akure Muslim High School had a donation of 60 gmelina seedlings and the units of 25 liter soft pedal waste bins were been donated.

Adeseko, who was represented by the organisation’s Environmental Officer, Mrs Bola Olaboye, noted that the profound impacts of climate change reverberated across numerous facets of lives, hence the need to tackle the climate change menace.

She said, “The impacts of the climate change cuts across health, and habitat to the economy. This unwelcome suite of effects manifests as heightened disease outbreaks, intensified rainfall, flash floods, soil degradation, loss of lives and property, and the unsettling disruption of livelihood.

“In our collective struggle to confront these challenges, we must recognise the transcendent nature of our responsibility-one that traverses individuals and governmental boundaries.

“ECOWEB360’s foremost objective remains the cultivation of a sustainable environment. Our endeavours have reached educational and health institutions, where we have fostered environmental dialogue, undertaken tree-planting initiatives, and facilitated the distribution of vital sanitation equipment.

In his remarks, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the ECOWEB360, Ayodele Adeyanju, said the organisation’s motive was geared towards saving the environment from the devastation caused by climate change.

“ECOWEB360 is an environmental foundation that deals with environmental sustainability in our society. When you look at nature, it has been depleted and the major challenge is that of climate change.

People have lost their lives and property and some schools have lost their building roofs. Some are even begging us to come because we give tree seedlings including waste bins. We ensure that cleanliness is given priority in society; there should be management of our waste. We go to religious organisations and any available space in the society to carry out this aim,” he said.

Adeyanju noted that the organisation would ensure that its projects were monitored to ensure their proper use.
