Haiti Cultural Exchange hosted Selebrasyin a vibrant Haitian Flag Day celebrationon on May 15 at Prospect Park in Brooklyn.
BROOKLYN— On May 15 the Boathouse at Prospect Park in Brooklyn was alive with the vibrant sounds and rich culture of Haiti as Haiti Cultural Exchange, in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance, hosted the Haitian Flag Day Selebrasyon. The event featured an electrifying performance by the renowned Haitian singer-songwriter BélO, accompanied by a talented crew of musicians.
BélO, known for his unique blend of Jazz, Worldbeat, Rock, Reggae, and Afro-Haitian traditional rhythms, treated the audience to a sublime musical experience. With six albums to his name, including “LAKOU TRANKIL” (2005), “REFERENCE” (2008), “Haiti Debout” (2011), “Natif Natal” (2014), “Dizan” (2016), and “Motivasyon” (2019), BélO has firmly established himself as an international ambassador of Haitian music. His songs, performed in the rich and colorful Haitian Creole, resonated deeply with the spectators, warming up the crowd and setting a joyful tone for the celebration.The Haitian Flag Day Selebrasyon was not just a celebration of the Haitian flag but a vibrant display of Haiti’s cultural heritage, bringing together some cultural artifacts vendors and members of the community in a joyous and meaningful way.
The event also featured a performance by Maxine Montilus from the Movement Project, whose choreography seamlessly incorporated dance and music, symbolizing resilience and hope.
