SELMER, Tenn. — The Carl Perkins Child Abuse Prevention Superhero Day is coming up on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hosted at the Selmer Civic Center, the free event hopes to raise awareness and provide resources about child abuse.
It also gives families a day of fun meeting heroes like Batman and Harry potter.
Local heroes will also be present including police officers and the fire department.
This allows kids to become familiar with people they see in the community and can go to for help.
The event also has interactive activities, themed giveaways and prizes.
“So our first year was 2015. Child Abuse Prevention Month, Carl Perkins usually has a theme. That year’s theme was superhero day. Jason knew some cosplayers from Nashville, so that first year had five cosplayers that came out and I think last year we had about 56,” said said Melissa Stewart Event Organizer.
The event has grown from a couple dozen children to around 350 children plus their families.
