It’s another State championship for Mahomet-Seymour sophomore Madalyn Marx. This past week, Marx clinched the Illinois Prep Top Times unofficial girls’ indoor Class 2A 400-meter state championship.
On Saturday, March 23, at the Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center, Marx soared to victory in the 400-meter race, stopping the clock at an impressive 57.55 seconds amidst a competitive field of 23 participants. Her triumph in this event not only earned her the state championship title but also highlighted her as one of the state’s premier sprinters. Adding to her accolades, Marx showcased her versatility by securing a third-place finish in the 200 meters with a personal record time of 25.39 seconds.
At the Apollo Conference Championship on March 9, she was part of the championship-winning 800-meter relay team, alongside Evelyn Hillard, Lauren Burr, and Kara Carney. Their synergy and speed were on full display as they posted a winning time of 1:48.69. Additionally, Marx lent her speed to the 1,600-meter relay unit, which included Carney, Katherine Simmons, and Kira Smith, helping them achieve a commendable combined time of 4:22.60.
The beginning of the indoor track season saw Marx setting the stage for her success. Marx hit a PR in the 60 60-meter dash at the KYA HS Indoor Classic At the KYA HS Indoor Classic on January 6. That same day she reached another 400 Meter Dash PR, running 56.91. Just a week earlier, Marx ran a PR in the 200 200-meter dash at the AAU Northern Indoor National Invitational with 25.13.
