Native Hawaiians celebrate their cultural survival at FestPAC


FestPAC delegations in Hawaii are exhibiting their final performances as the event comes to a close after eleven days of rich cultural exchanges of traditional arts, crafts, music, dance, and oral traditions.

Director of Hawaiian Cultural Affairs and FestPAC chair Kalani Kaʻanāʻanā says the festival has been an opportunity to display native Hawaiian culture and highlight efforts in cultural preservation.

“It was important for us Kanaka and Native Hawaiians to stand in our own authenticity,” said Kaʻanāʻanā.

“The illegal overthrowing of our Kingdom, colonization and the banning of our language in the past has made it difficult, but like so many at this festival, we are still here…our people are thriving.”
