CACE invited all local writers, poets, and performers to the Open Mic Night on Thursday at Books on Main in Fort Morgan. The event attracted a crowd of creatives for a night of showcasing their talents. Ryan Burmester, an experienced stand-up comic, emceed the event.

Open Mic Night is a popular event for CACE, MCC Center for Arts and Community Enrichment, and is organized by CACE Coordinator Suzanna Spears.

“Everyone has their own reasons for performing here this evening,” Spears said. “Some have written books and read pieces from them, another is a comedian, a poetry writer and a presenter.  It’s a great way to share a little bit about yourself with the community, and Books on Main does a great job of representing these authors by offering their books for sale in the store.”

One comment from the crowd included how impressed they were by the quality and diversity of the performers. Another said, “We had some amazing talent tonight. There was so much creativity and originality of the performers.”

Alicia Stewart, owner of Books on Main, said there was an excellent turnout for the event, with more than 20 people.

“My hope is that we will implement an Open Mic Night at least once a quarter, depending on community engagement,” she said.

At the conclusion of the evening, Spears discussed CACE and the projects they work on and invited everyone to join one of their committees. To learn more about CACE, visit their website at https://www.morgancc.edu/about-mcc/cace/.
