Senator Risa Hontiveros is shocked and saddened by the heartbreaking death of Dr. Gia Sison, a champion for mental health and gender equality.
The medical doctor, a breast cancer survivor, passed away on Thursday. She was 53. Her family confirmed the news through social media.
Hontiveros could not believe the news when she heard it.
“Stunned to hear about Doc Gia Sison’s death,” she wrote on Facebook on March 21.
She praised Sison for her dedication and thanked her for contributions to important causes.
“She was one of our staunchest #MentalHealthAct & #SOGIEEqualityBill allies. She always made time for us, was always so warm, always so generous with her light,” she said.
“Maraming salamat, Doc Gia. You will be dearly missed. 😢,” she added.
