The best value ECE qualification

Early childhood education is a rewarding career that shapes young minds for life. Educators empower children to grow, thrive, and build a strong foundation for success, but the path is not without its challenges.

In Australia, early childhood educators earn between 80,000 to 95,000 Australian dollars. The Australian Government will even fund a 15% wage increase for the early childhood education and care workforce. Yet, many still feel their pay isn’t enough. For comparison, the average Australian household spends AU$327,059 annually.

While passion often drives educators, financial stability is a critical consideration. Thankfully, there are pathways to improve earning potential, such as advancing your qualifications with a master’s degree.

If you’re thinking of getting a Master’s in Teaching and Learning, why not study in New Zealand, the first country to design an early childhood curriculum? Ranked #27 among 207 countries by World Population Review for education, it’s home to many top schools for teaching, such as New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC).

Learn, practise, and inspire

With over four decades of experience in inspiring and training educators, NZTC is an internationally recognised tertiary education provider. All of its programmes, from diplomas to bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees, are approved by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. Plus, as a New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Category 1 Provider, NZTC has achieved the highest rating of “Highly Confident” in educational performance and self-assessment, so you can be guaranteed you’re getting a quality education.

The NZTC Master of Teaching and Learning (ECE) is a 52-week programme tailored for graduates from any field interested in early childhood education. As the only private college in New Zealand offering this programme, NZTC provides the best value for your investment with affordable tuition fees. If you’re one of the first 100 students to sign up, you will receive an AU$9,025 (10,000 New Zealand dollars) discount on tuition fees too.

The programme combines research, pedagogical theory, and hands-on practice, giving students a well-rounded education. Key topics include implementing New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum, fostering diversity through inclusive teaching, supporting children with diverse abilities, and developing leadership skills to enhance curriculum quality.

For maximum flexibility, the programme is delivered through centre-based and online blended learning options. In the centre-based mode of delivery, students spend most of their time in an early childhood centre, gaining direct experience in real-world settings.

Alternatively, the online blended learning option combines the flexibility of online learning with workplace training. Students benefit from access to NZTC Online for course materials, research and support resources, and assessment tools, ensuring a seamless integration of learning and practice.

Shape future generations while shaping your career

At the core of the Master of Teaching and Learning (ECE) is a combination of academic theory and extensive, hands-on experience designed to set you up for success in the early childhood education industry. From day one, you will join a home centre (a registered ECE facility near your home) for 33 weeks, learning from a dedicated Associate Teacher (AT) and participating in online tutorials and discussions.

Along with your home centre experience, you will complete 80 days of practicum as well, where you are guided and assessed by both NZTC lecturers and ATs. These fully registered ECE teachers provide consistent support and supervision, equipping you with practical skills and professional insights. Through this practical exposure, you will develop the confidence to work in various early childhood settings and use various teaching approaches and philosophies.

Once you complete the programme, you’ll be ready to support young learners and apply for New Zealand teacher registration and provisional certification. As a qualified ECE teacher, you will be included on Immigration New Zealand’s Green List, making you eligible for work-to-residence opportunities after just two years of experience. You can also support a partner work visa, and your dependent children can apply for dependent child student visas.

What’s even better is your strong career prospects; early childhood educators in New Zealand typically earn between NZ$57,000 and NZ$100,000 New Zealand dollars annually. However, as an NZTC graduate, you can expect to start at NZ$64,000 per year.

Your internationally recognised NZTC qualifications open doors to teaching opportunities worldwide too, including in Australia, China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Germany. With a focus on innovation and professional development, NZTC helps you make a real difference in the lives of young students.
