KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan student-athletes finished off the 2023-24 school year with unprecedented academic success.
For the Spring Semester, the Broncos combined for a 3.43 GPA, the highest on record. They also finished the with the highest GPA on record for a full academic year at 3.40. Student-athletes from WMU’s women’s programs also set a new GPA record with a 3.68 for the Spring. The men’s programs combined for a 3.23.
“Congratulations to our Student-Athletes on an excellent academic year to go along with their many athletic accomplishments,” said Ashley Williams, WMU Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services. “Setting new records in the classroom while competing at the level they did this year is very impressive. I appreciate all their hard work, the administration’s dedication to maintaining high academic standards, our coach’s emphasis on the importance of academics, and all of our academic support staff both within the Athletic Department and across campus.”
The WMU Softball team posted its highest semester GPA on record with a 3.69 and the Bronco Track & Field program also had a semester program-best 3.70. The Western Michigan women’s soccer team also had a program-best for a semester with a 3.69.
Overall, 15 programs had GPA’s of 3.0 or higher for the semester and the academic year. Baseball, men’s tennis, women’s basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, women’s soccer, softball, women’s tennis, track and field and volleyball all had GPA’s of 3.50 or higher in both the semester and the academic year.
Individually, 301 WMU student-athletes posted semester GPAs of 3.0 or higher, while 232 of them had at least a 3.50. Western Michigan also had 86 student-athletes post perfect 4.00 GPAs during the Spring Semester, the most on record.
