The Colchester Milton Rotary Club’s latest project, Operation: Flags for Heroes, recognizes veterans, businesses, and community heroes by displaying flags in a prominent location, flown in their honor. Our heroes include veterans, healthcare workers, school employees, fire and safety personnel, grocery store employees and community volunteers – all those essential to our daily lives before, during, and after the pandemic.
The project saw a soft launch over the Labor Day Holiday, with a display of ten flags each in front of RR Charlebois in Milton and Dick Mazza’s Store in Colchester. As community members and businesses step forward to recognize heroes through an annual subscription, the displays of flags will grow. Each subscription entitles the subscriber to choose their honoree, which will be acknowledged by a personalized plaque on one of the flags. The Club will install the flags for display on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veteran’s Day.
Project manager Chuck Ginsburg stated, “The idea is to bring the community together to recognize each other’s efforts and heroes regardless of one’s beliefs. At the same time, the funds raised will be used by Rotary to support the remarkable work that we do right here in the community and throughout the world.”
Subscriptions start at $50 and are available to both individuals and businesses. Higher-level sponsorships are available for those who want to broaden their financial support or receive additional recognition on banners and other materials. The flags will be on display once again on Veteran’s Day, this November 11th.
Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
